A Glaciers' Patience

This is one for Amanda >>her baby girl Alexis.
Hope to finish it in the next couple days.
I really like painting babies- if you never have you definitely should. It's completely different than any other portrait. I also like painting on square canvas now- whatever that means.
I have been painting with oil since I was 16, and today I finally realized how to correctly create space between the subject and background using solid color.  Ah, what a revelation. I'd been faking it all this time.

relaxation

I am on vacation in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and loving it! Here's a couple pics from my trip so far..
We stayed awake to watch the sun slowly rise to become the hottest day of the summer. I fall in love with the ocean a little more every day..

A night of fancy food and martinis topped off with a personal open mic session. I may never come home at this rate...

Contemplating another trip to Chaddsford, PA on the way home--I've waited for Carolina all year and it feels so good to be back!

wrapped up in ribbons of your heart

My painting of Vanessa won second place for the People's Choice in the Yale Bologna Festival Art Show. I also won a gift certificate for art supplies in a drawing. Yessss... thank you to whoever voted! The only upset being there were no trophies of gold bologna. This needs to happen next year for sure.

I am packing for my trip to North Carolina and bidding good-bye to this Michigan's summer. When I return it is going to be back to work big time. I am expanding my knowledge and entering a new career endeavor this fall. Oh boy, deep breaths....

I have 3 paintings in progress>> it is my new tactic to cycle through three at a time,..it's just a good number.

A friend just posted this pic tonight of us in the OBX , and I am sooooo ready to be there again!

B-O-L-O-G-N-A

Vanessa+++=Completed.  16x20 oil:canvas. Note all the yellow used, I am finally getting better at seeing it in complexions.

This coming weekend I am going to be participating in an art show in my home town, and this painting will be displayed for the 3 day affair. The Yale Bologna Festival may catch a lot of slack for its' odd celebration, and although it is a life goal of mine never to become the Bologna Queen; I still have pride for my little town where I grew up. Besides, deep down you know you love bologna.

Miss Ven.
I have come to know this is my favorite part of painting right now. The structure; burnt sienna and turpentine. I used to never have patience for it, but these days it helps me breathe.

oh my sweet carolina

To go, or not to go.
Last summer I resided in Corolla, North Carolina (part of the Outer Banks) to make some cash and shed some haunting ghosts from my past. Stunningly beautiful this vacation spot is a definite must. I have been asked again to go down south to work and beach unexpectedly next week! I hesitate because I am not sure it is relevant or beneficial to my life anymore. But, what the hell.. how often do you get to live off the ocean? I hate decisions.

edit**

So decision made- I am not going to NC...just yet.
My other half is leaving tuesday and I am extremely upset about it, truth be told.
Literally made myself sick over it all...with an icky summer cold.
But I hope to fly out to visit in a month.

As for my art gig- I have a potential July show for the Port Huron area as well as a confirmed exhibition with fellow CCS alum Andrea Kowch and CCS glass students for a later date in Romeo, MI.

Don't let sleeping dogs lie, get that dog up off the ground

I love fabric, needles and tactile things. Most of all I love to learn how to speak in more tangible languages. So humor me please in this new endeavor.
Corset Coasters are tasty and saturated in color and personality.
True to their nature as any handmade item should be, the little nuances of threading are unpredictable and delightful.
I am loving expanding my crafts with what little resources I have.
So here is the start of my new collection of loves.
